I Thought I Knew Myself
I thought I knew myself.
I thought that I could gather all of the perspectives of the people around me to build the definition of E. Not necessarily the worst tactic, but definitely not sustainable. My idea of self was, at its core, limited to what other people could see me as. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Well, last year came through with the constant question of “Who is E? Like, REALLY really?” As soon as I was open to even addressing that question, life opened up to show me the answers.
So I decided to do a thing.
Then I decided to do another thing…and another. Each time, I stepped intentionally into a new space knowing that it would feed my purpose somehow. Some seasons are brought to you to give you the clarity of a lifetime. Clarity rarely comes easy. Needless to say, your purpose may not always start off clear. However, everything started to fall in palace for me when I learned to watch and LISTEN to the signs surrounding me and recognize that these moments, people and gut feelings were guiding me.
“Some seasons are brought to you to give you the clarity of a lifetime.”
Over the next few weeks, I will be bringing my lessons to the forefront of my life by presenting them through conversations with the women around me who have inspired me to push further, harder and with greater intention. With each conversation, I will take a photo to be added to my ongoing photo project #SpeakToHer.
#SpeakToHer strives to capture those moments when we look into the mirror and tell ourselves the truths we know deeply and need to hear from our own mouths. Do you trust the woman in the mirror with the truth of who you are?
Whenever I take the time to sit myself down and unpack and lay all that I am going through next to all that I am, I usually fall back in love with my purpose and my journey (no matter how bumpy it gets). So join me in taking the time to tell yourself who you are. Because sometimes that’s all you really need to hear to push forward.
